Logical fallacies galore

US hypothesis Nr. 1: Israel does not attack civilians and civilian infrastructure.
US hypothesis Nr. 2: The US "is concerned for the personal safety of American citizens due to the current security situation in Lebanon" because "major roads … are subject to an air strike at any time" (according to an email I received from the US Dept of State)
In short, Americans in Lebanon are in danger of being hit by an Israeli bomb.
US hypothesis Nr. 3: We must evacuate all American civilians.

Conclusion:
We must evacuate all American civilians, for they are in danger of being attacked by Israel, which does not attack civilians.

The American civilians who are in danger must all be human shields for Hezbollah or hiding Katyushas under their beds. Why, oh why, would they be in danger, if Israel is attacking Hezbollah, rather than everything that moves?

Has there ever been a war where innocents aren't subject to the dangers of exploding bombs?

Is there some magic weapon that locks up if there's a civilian 30000 feet below?

What a childish entry. You really do sound like you come from a banana republic.

Your sylligism is demostrably false. Your first premise is incorrect: The US position, and you can verify it in reports, even on the bbc, or the Cresent News Network, that civilians and infrastructure is being destroyed. Hezb uses both as sheilds and part of their tactics.

They'll glady fight to the last Leb. Wake up and smell the smart bombs exploding.

The cool thing about democracy is the freedom. You get to chose. Unfortunately, that freedom comes with responsibility. You have to pay the price for your choices. You vote them in. allow them to become not only part of your gov't but also a shadow military and state within a state. You get to pay the cosequences.

If you're democracy survives...the system can be self correcting. But it has to last longer than one person, one vote, one time...

I pray that you chose wisely.

But the brutal fact is that civilian deaths are Hezbollah's strongest weapon. As Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, once said: "We have discovered how to hit the Jews where they are the most vulnerable. The Jews love life, so that is what we shall take away from them. We are going to win because they love life and we love death."

Thus Hezbollah places its rockets and other potential targets in homes, knowing that Israel cannot hit back without creating collateral damage. This does not relieve Israel of the burden of minimizing civilian casualties as best it can. The point is that if Israel has to operate under a code of ethics that renders civilian deaths unacceptable, then it automatically loses. The ramifications would be dire and ultimately aid the cause of Islamic radicals in such a way as to bring about many more innocent deaths over the long run.

Hey E! Looks like you're attracting a few trolls! Good entry that seems to have escaped the simple robotic commentators from our neighbours to the South!
The US history is plagued with purposeful targeting of civilians whether Nicaragua or Vietnam or more recently in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Is the US administration so full of itself that it actually makes statements only to continue to hynpotise the comatose American public?

How pathetic is it that the only way some people here can deal with facts, including those confessed by Lebanese themselves now, is to accuse posters of being "trolls"?

“Fact…including those confessed by Lebanese themselves now” [sic]

Dude,

You sound like some Gestapo officer referring to PM Pierre Laval’s latest interview to “Je Suis Partout” circa 1942.

Still I wonder how did you persuade these Lebanese children to “confess” to you: did you kill their parents, or just sprayed them with napalm and phosphorus bombs supplied by your Pharisaic friends at the Pentagon?

Just asking

Ehem, OK, anonymity is a choice so I won't hold that against you provided you:
1- Are not the anonymous who said:"Human Shields Galore" that is not a comment. To assume you can justify immorality by adopting the position that you can see immorality in your opponent is rubbish.

2- Are not the anonymous commentator still talking about "smart bombs" he should wake up and smell the barbeques of human flesh everywhere from the Balkans to Afghanistan. If the bombs are smart, humans using them are clearly targeting what they are hitting i.e. civilians

3- Are not ... but wait, you're the fucker occupying my land and killing my people, you can't find Hizbullah fighters so you penalise everything and everybody around the general vacinity from which attacks were launched.

Hizbullah fighters are on their own land. They ARE Lebanese and currently the war is with Israel, spare me the rubbish that you care about me enough to kill me. Honestly, I think "troll" was too kind.

If you're blind to the present, open your eyes to your past.

Sorry EDB, I know this is your blog and I will understand if you delete this reply.

PEACE.

To the doctor, who knows big words, like "dude", read the article at the human shields galore link, previously posted. These are Lebanese adults talking.

I am one in the same poster. War is not immoral if just. We disagree which side is just here.

2- Are not the anonymous commentator still talking about "smart bombs" he should wake up and smell the barbeques of human flesh everywhere from the Balkans to Afghanistan. If the bombs are smart, humans using them are clearly targeting what they are hitting i.e. civilians

I am not the same poster but if he meant that even the smartest of bombs hitting legitimate targets are most likely to cause unnecesary casualties, that on its own doesn't make the bombing illegitimate. And if Lebanon insists on continuing to hold on to Israel's soldiers, well, there's always Nasrallah's May 23rd speech to quote from:

"In contrast, our people and our nation's willingness to sacrifice their blood, souls, children, fathers, and families for the sake of the nation's honor, life, and happiness has always been one of our nation's strengths."

3- Are not ... but wait, you're the fucker occupying my land and killing my people, you can't find Hizbullah fighters so you penalise everything and everybody around the general vacinity from which attacks were launched.

Ain't war a pip! BTW, maybe you buy that we're not hitting Hizzies but we don't.

Hizbullah fighters are on their own land.

Not 2 weeks ago they weren't and they hence commited yet another act of war. What Hizzie wants Hizzie gets.

They ARE Lebanese and currently the war is with Israel,

No problem. Here's looking at you, kid!

spare me the rubbish that you care about me enough to kill me.

Why should I care about you?

Honestly, I think "troll" was too kind.

If you're blind to the present, open your eyes to your past.

You mean the decades of Lebanese based terrorist attacks against Israel? Thanks for the reminder.

To anonymous,

I am humbled by your good manners. Thank you for that. I agree with your first point that we disagree on which side is just. To me, if you are a rational creature, you're probably isolating the events of the past 2 weeks in isolation from whatever Israel's injection into this region has caused. Or, more recently what Israel has been up to since 2000, in specific.

As for the quotation, I am not an expert on NasrulLah's speeches. Yet, I concur that we are willing to die and sacrifice all what is dear to live without the Israeli yolk around our necks.

I did not make an inferences about actually hitting "Hizzies" as you call them. I was merely pointing to the direct hits are nothing but civilians. Some of your mass bombing must have hit warriors too, I think.

No problem here either. He's looking at me and I plan to take out his eye. Sounds fair.

I am not assuming you do care about me. I just can't help pick up on this tone coming from commentators of the other side that well, you're doing Lebanon/Arabs/ basically humanity a favor when all I can see are attrocities committed by your valiant remote fighting soldiers.

Your history is filled with murderous rampages to establish de facto changes on the ground with the hope it will eventually give Israel its right of passage into authenticity in the Middle East.

Nothing personal, kole ha kavode personally, but what Zionism has done is nothing short of hijacking the aspirations of a battered group of people and shape them into pawns moved by a few elitests who employ all the resources it can muster to serve interests of multinationals.

Look at your militaristic society and tell me your normal. I will tell you beforehand, my life is not. But I WAS HERE FIRST.

Thank you again for your cadure and politeness.

Or more precisely, to whatever the Arab's constant attempts to destroy Israel has caused.

Or, more recently what Israel has been up to since 2000, in specific.

Such as leaving Lebanon 6 years ago and having to respond to Hizbalah's constant attacks against us nevertheless. Find some other playmate to roll over and play dead with your friends.

As for the quotation, I am not an expert on NasrulLah's speeches. Yet, I concur that we are willing to die and sacrifice all what is dear to live without the Israeli yolk around our necks.

The stupid thing is we aren't interested in being in Lebanon in the first place and never would have been this time or last were it not for Lebanon's granting sanctuary to terrorists for some 4 decades now, whose aims are the eradication of my country. Gee, do you think Lebanon is asking for it?

I did not make an inferences about actually hitting "Hizzies" as you call them. I was merely pointing to the direct hits are nothing but civilians.

So they tell you in Hizblablah-land.

Some of your mass bombing must have hit warriors too, I think.

No fooling.

No problem here either. He's looking at me and I plan to take out his eye. Sounds fair.

The humor is lost on me. But nevermind.

I am not assuming you do care about me. I just can't help pick up on this tone coming from commentators of the other side that well, you're doing Lebanon/Arabs/ basically humanity a favor

Lebanon? Maybe. That will be up to the Lebanese? Arabs as a whole? I doubt anything will change. Humanity? Yes. Saying no to Hizbalah is good to mankind in the longrun. I wish some of you had the strength to try it.

when all I can see are attrocities committed by your valiant remote fighting soldiers.

Just war is in itself not an attrocity.

Your history is filled with murderous rampages to establish de facto changes on the ground with the hope it will eventually give Israel its right of passage into authenticity in the Middle East.

I feel no need to beg and plead for my legitimacy in front of you war mongerers.

Nothing personal, kole ha kavode personally, but what Zionism has done is nothing short of hijacking the aspirations of a battered group of people and shape them into pawns moved by a few elitests who employ all the resources it can muster to serve interests of multinationals.

Actually, that's exactly what Islam and pan-Arabism has done but history hasn't taught you a thing, I can see.

Look at your militaristic society and tell me your normal.

We are neither "militaristic" nor "normal." We've long ago stopped our military parades, unlike many of our neighbors. All of us would like to have no military at all. Unfortunately, what drives us to militarize are the neighbors, a pesky lot that whine, like you're doing now, when we arm ourselves so that you can't mow us down with the greatest of ease, like in the mandate days.

I will tell you beforehand, my life is not. But I WAS HERE FIRST.

G-d was here before you. When the Muslims came in the 630's, the Jews and Christians were to be found in Jerusalem. We have never stopped living here nor stopped attempting to return to our homeland and resettle it.

Thank you again for your cadure and politeness.

Aw....... it was nothing. Really.

Hizbollah can produce diplomatic miracles impossable even with all the might and connivance of the USA.

They are powerful indeed.

Anonymous bigotry, hey? Kind of like bombing for two ceaseless weeks from the cushy safety of your fighter jets.
Unfortunately the "Hizzies" aren't Israel's bitch to slap around on their (Lebanese) turf.

And now the old comatose butcher is about to kick the bucket, right in the midst of all the fun.
I know for a fact that the Israeli media is selling their people lies; show me pictures of the destruction of 50% of the Hezb's rocket launchers. What are you doing up there with your surveillance drones and planes, apart from taking out civilian infrastructure and housing? If you have the evidence, prove it.

And the "state within a state" talk tickles me. Yes, here we go again, the nation state has a moral monopoly on violence. Try no state and no army to speak of (in Lebanon), just a bunch of laughable, embezzling businessmen and fiefs.
The Hezb is an army, call it what you want. Terror is terror, whether by individuals, groups or the armed wing of a state. Duh.

Keep up the good work, Fayez. And anonymous (the lot of you), I'd really prefer if you signed in. Otherwise I will practice my *freedom* and *responsibility* by banning non-blogger members. No one's going to hurt you for posting your opinions; take a hint from Dr. Vic. Make up a name. Da author,

Lebanon had over a year to do it its way. Hizbollah evidently wanted to speed up the job and contract it out to the Israelis as more competent than the Lebanese.

You should be thankful. You are getting Hizbollah cut down to size without a civil war. Unless you are a Hizbollah lover. When in which case my condolences.

And consider this: Diplomatic Miracle - a track back.

next time we will realise that the devil does not care which side we are on as long as we just keep on that hate trip.

hate hate hate - one day we will defeat the real enemy TOGETHER (it's the only way) and life will be ecstacy evermore.

and Lebanon will have rental cars and no smoking areas for everyone.

don't carry the poison that is hate in your heart - lose it and spike Lebanon and Israel's water supply with serious amounts of top notch liquid acid. it is the only way.

I can tell you what Hizbollah has in store for Israel (and as a side effect Lebanon):

The Doves of Hizbollah.

Hossein Safiadeen also reinforced earlier threats by Hizbullah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah to widen the scope of attacks, which have included unprecedented missile strikes deep into northern Israel.

"We are going to make Israel not safe for Israelis. There will be no place they are safe," Safiadeen told a conference that included the Tehran-based representative of the Palestinian group Hamas and the ambassadors from Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian Authority.

"You will see a new Middle East in the way of Hizbullah and Islam, not in the way of Rice and Israel."
